Myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol: what they are and how they're used
Irregular cycles, sugar cravings you can't control, tiredness after eating… For many women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), these signs have something in common: the way the body responds to insulin.
That's where myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositolcome in, two of the most-studied supplements in this field. Here's what they are, what the evidence says and how to take them.
What are inositols?
Inositol is a substance the body uses as a messenger inside cells, especially in the response to insulin. Myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol are its two most important forms and they play complementary roles.
Why are they combined in a 40:1 ratio?
In the body, both are found in a ratio of roughly 40 parts myo-inositol to 1 part D-chiro-inositol. Several studies and reviews, such as the update published in Gynecological Endocrinology (2024), suggest that keeping that ratio gives better results than using high doses of D-chiro-inositol alone.
The ratio matters: 40:1 mimics the body's natural balance.
What is it used for?
- PCOS: reviews report improvements in metabolic markers, such as insulin sensitivity, and more regular cycles in some patients.
- Support for glucose control, as part of a healthy lifestyle.
The evidence is promising but still mixed. That's why it should be seen as a complement to medical treatment, never a replacement.
How to take it
Our Glycemic Control sachets combine myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol with moringa, magnesium and vitamin D3, in 5 g sachets that dissolve easily in water.

- Pair it with a balanced diet and physical activity.

Precautions
- It's usually well tolerated; at high doses it can cause mild stomach upset.
- If you take diabetes medication, check with your doctor: your glucose may need monitoring.
